Why Is It So Hard to Make a Living as a Journalist?
The business model has changed in such a way that it's a lot harder to make a decent living as a journalist than it was in the past. The whole industry is so centered around opinion writing anyway, because that's so much cheaper than paying reporters. It might have something to do with that an that doves tale tells with the professionalization of journalism. You also lose the kind of blue collar worker who didn't think of journalism exactly particularly exalted profession. But i think it's more like the people, the the older people who are supposed to be mentors and had an idea of the right and wrong way to do it - they no longer exist.
