How to Blind Bake a Custard Pie
You don't want the butter to leak out or get melty or greasy. There is a point in the oven that it will kind of appear a little shiny and you want to continue until it dries out. You can also do that with lard and butter, any kind of fat like that. Do you think it matters using shortening versus butter? Well, you can do for both. But same thing, you need to make sure that everything is cut in properly, coated and same thing.
