The Importance of Symbols in a Language

Karnav and his fellows thought that why can't we make a sharp distinction in the language imagery formalize the theory? So that corresponds to directly measurable qualities, what they call observation predicates. And the other predicates, theoretical predicates, you cannot apply them directly. The idea behind the Karnav approach is that really, you should begin by thinking of the theory as a symbol system.
