"This is a very gothic ghost story element where you're not even in the house that already you've got a feeling that something's not quite right inside it and you shouldn't actually go closer," says director Alfred Hitchcock. "We were talking before we started recording about how it almost, I would like we would put it on par with Citizen Kane almost, right? In terms of the lighting, the cinematography and the depth and everything that you get in this film is amazing, isn't it?"
