The Destroyment of the Sengoku Period

The Poet Solchu arrived in the city in 1526 and was stunned to find that what had once been the heart of a thriving commercial city was now nothing more than farmland. The Imperial family was hit badly by the events of the war, as they lacked even the nominal forces necessary to defend their holdings around Kyoto. Many Buddhist temples also joined the fighting of the Sengoku period, seizing their own independently held territories. Some militant Buddhists were able to seize large chunks of territory and incorporate them into an independent militant Buddhist state.
