How Precision Parts Are Produced in a Shop
The precision parts inside all the nations most advanced space and defense technology company come from shops that are more or less one floor of garage looking things. Inside those shops, there are expensive machines operated by machinists with decades of earned tribal knowledge and locked in their heads. 30 to forty percent of parts are ship late or have quality issues. Lead times from bid to ship of six to 18 weeks,. despite three to six week lead time promises, delays are the rule and not the exception.
