Swift has a lot of syntactic sugar, which is distracting from building the core abstractions. We want to be a good member of the Python community and so we want to work with the broader Python community. The traits feature is really a big deal; that's blocking a lot of API design. Lifetimes give you safe references to memory without dangling pointers. That'll be out to the community very soon.
