The Importance of Funding Your MFA Program
I always viewed my MFA as a shelter, it was like I was hiding out and being able to concentrate on my work. And also to find myself in a community of people who were similarly nerdy and interested in this weird kind of nichey thing. The point is whether or not the program is funded. That's the big thing. If anybody came to me and said I'm thinking of getting my MFA in poetry or fiction and the first thing I would say is is it funded? And if they said yes, I'd say go. And if they saying no, I'd says don't go. that's a scam.
