The Smell of Nicotine on Marie
Dr. Marie had smoked since she was a teenager, and despite her decades of addiction work, she hadn't managed to quit. A few years before Marie died, a young historian named David Courtwright visited her at her Rockefeller office in Manhattan. The first thing he remembers noticing was the smell.
