In 19 96, George Bush said one thing and John carey another. Now we don't even share similar facts, let alone have to reason about facts in ways that are differently. The problem now is on top of that designed effect in the brain, we have a designed effect in our media. We're getting it from sources that have no fact checking and who are largely sending them information because they're like minded.
