I remember putting on my badge at blackheath station, and sitting on the train wearing this badge and feeling both exhilarated, but also quite scared. When ted got to trafalgar square, he saw a small crowd in leather jackets, playful wigs and flowery shirts. For the first time, here was this community saying that they had the right to live without shame. In those days, many people didn't know that the word gay meant homisexual? They might have just meant that we were cheerful.
