The Fungus in the Last of Us
It's Cordycepsus out there in the real world, isn't it? It is called zombie ants. Ant species that get infected with these fungi will wander around in a very confused way and eventually climb up vegetation. And this is then where the insect will get killed by the fungus,. So it can use all that energy to produce a stalk and a fruiting body. When finished, the deadly spores will burst from its tip. Then any ant in the vicinity will be at risk of death.
