The Counsel of Trent
00:00
Canon 36 of the Senate of Elvira
Around the year 305, a local council of bishops met in Spain and produced a series of canons to regulate Christian life covering topics like marriage and penances. One of the canons, number 36, deals with images and churches. The issue isn't that something becomes an object of worship by being placed on a wall; it doesn't say why it shouldn't be put there. Next we will look at the history of the fourth century church starting with the historian Eusebius of Cesaria.
