The Bifurcated Lab at Stanford
When he news groups, which is like literally a few dozen articles from each of 20 news groups that you had to classify into which news group was it about computers was about pets. It was just like, I can't bring myself to care. At the time, and this was already the late 90s, the data set that were available or emerging in biology were more interesting. And so ultimately ended up with a bifurcated lab at Stanford where half of my lab continued to do core machine learning applied to computer vision and robotics.
