The Indentations on Our Body

My hope is that increasingly i become comfortable with the creases under my eyes, around my lips, because they're honest. They're markers of what it means for me to have lived. My first collection of poems i wrote living in cape town the summer of 20 12, and i called it un apologetic bodies because i caught on fire that summer. I suffered from intense burns in my legs and arms, and i was bandaged, and i couldn't really walk or dance or cook, so i wrote. And what i found myself writing from that place of incredible pain is, god dam it, i love this burned body.
