The Discovery of Kannosos

Kannosos is on the island of Crete and it's about 5km south of the modern city of Arachlian. A local Crete man, Menos Calicerenos, who decided to excavate at Kannosos in 1878. He found this obviously very old building, lots of twisting corridors which people immediately associated with the labyrinth. And he adopted a name for this new Bronze Age civilization of the Minowans named Arthur King Minos. The debate has raged ever since about who was in charge at Knossos - but we don't really know if there was a king and queenthere.
