The Atrium Roof Collapsed at Hyatt Hotel in 1979
Four steel beams had fallen from the hotel's atrium roof that morning, not just one. The heaviest beam weighed 12 tons and crashed through the terrace restaurant,. There was a 20-foot by 100-foot hole in the ceiling. Hallmark took out an extra $200 million worth of insurance on the project for an additional $33,000 a year to protect themselves against future accidents.
