I think a lot of the time Tom's been trying to get to get to criticize more or less rightfully for his portrayal of female characters but I do think in this case he is explicit almost explicitly not explicit but almost explicitly pointing to the fact that so many women are essentially raised to only think of themselves in relationship to men because those bits of character we get from adipa are framed as memories defined by other men purple by men. That particular line always struck me as super enigmatic because I what what keeps her there that really keeps her where she is is magic anonymous and malignant and visited on her from outside and for no reason at all.
