The Problem With the Roman Catholic Church
There was plurality in the Church before the Reformation and at one point there was even more than one person claiming to be the Pope. So not as though the Roman Catholic escaped the problem of how to locate authority. I think the Reformers were aware of this, we need to give them credit. Not only did they call for councils in the Roman Catholic Church but in their own confessional traditions,. both the Lutheran and the Reformed practice what they preached.
