The Impact of Migration on Housing and the Economy
Without migration, Australia would start to shrink in about a decade. The twist on this is that it isn't really an issue of a lack of homes in general. In fact, there are plenty of homes but many of them are empty. It's not that there's a lack of places to put people, it's just that it's very unequally distributed. On Census night in 2021, more than 10% of dwellings were unoccupied.
