Machiavellian: A Philosopher or Not?

The Prince doesn't read like a philosopher with any kind of system, yet we're talking about him as if a Machiavellian lens can be applied to events. He's using contemporary language would say appropriating these texts for his purposes. If it's true that he read Greek, I have no idea, by the way, that if it's true,. It would seem to imply that Machiavelli, if he was a philosopher, was trying to suppress that fact.
