The 2022 physics prize went to an experimentalist who settled in 1972, 50 years ago. Niels Bohr was the father and high priest of quantum mechanics. Initially devised as a theory to explain the atom, but now the underlying principle of all physics. John Clauser's 1972 experiment, using photons of light, reinforced 10 years later by Alan Aspect showed he was wrong. There's nothing deeper than quantum theory.
