Developing Countries Have Less Culty Behavior
Developed countries seem to have less culty behavior. The united states is definitely an exception, though. In places like scandinavia and japan there are the social safety nets in place for those who lose their job or become very ill. And we don't have as many of those things here in the united States. Combined with our culture of individualism, leaves people feeling pretty exitentially high and dry, unmoored. So they look to these alternative groups in order to find that support. Some of them are mostly harmless, and some of them are profoundly unethical. But there this seems to be the pattern throughout our culture.
