Minimalism and the Immigrants

i wonder if roland bart said anything about minimalism and the social classes that are drawn to it is relevant here. Roland barth is a french theorist who written a lot about popular culture. He was writing the sixties, and he has a great essay about the working class quisines in some of the women's magazines of his day. And you know, as a working class magazine, that this was full of ideas and aspirations, rather than things that people would really make. i think it is true that minimalism is the privilege of the elite.
