Post-Op Atrial Fibrillation - Should I Anticoagulate?

There is a strong school of thought that these AFib episodes tend to be transients, i.e. when it's a secondary type of AFib. So in the context of sepsis or post-operative inflammation, there's a belief in the community that these episodes of AF tend to be self-resolving and that by the time the patient improves, the AFib should not recur anymore. Having said that, there are no guidelines proving that this is true and there's no guidelines saying that you should categorically, anticoagulate these people.
