Car lobby got hold of city governments and said at the moment your streets are a mess. So what american cities did in a lot of cases was ban jay walking right they said in effect streets are for cars. It really bugs me in America that not only you know it's not just the jay walking I mean they actually treat walking on the sidewalk on the pavement as if there is something wrong with you.
