In the late 70s he came to visit our center. I had just been in a car accident and was using crutches which I was not very dexterous with. The Dalai Lama made a B line through 100 people took my hand, looked me in the eye and said what happened? And it was so beautiful because that certainly he couldn't make my accident not have happened or make the pain go away but that terrible corrosive sense of being so alone and left out and neglected is gone. That was beautiful. Because I really believe no one should have to suffer alone.
