Do We Learn From Failures?

We learn from our own failures, but not as much as we learn from successes. This is not because failures don't have good information in them. Sometimes failures have the same information and successes, but it's harder to learn. And let me demonstrate this point with a study that I ran with Lauren Esquis-Winkler. We gave people questions that had basically two answers and they had to guess between them. Those who guessed correctly, they can report the correct answer after a few minutes. But those who guessed incorrectly and learned that their guess was incorrect could not report thecorrect answer.
