In the late 70s, Crazy Eddie released a commercial where Jerry Carroll appeared on a dance floor. When a new Crazy Eddie store opened in New Jersey in 1978, around 20,000 people stood in line for a chance to meet him and get a free t-shirt. As the chain expanded, they kept evading taxes, but that wasn't all they were doing. The commercials made Jerry Carroll a sort of celebrity.
