If the purpose of art is to teach us to love life, startrech totally fills this bill. Granted, it is more fiction than science, but i think many of you first became interested in the universe by responding to startre's message about life. I happen to be a slow reader, slow thinker, e slow understander. But when startrek was first telecased shortly after the civil war, i was not among its adherents. What i saw was a lot of folks running around cheesey sets, wearing what looked like doctor denton's and a man with pointy ears. There was nothing in this ritual that encouraged me to watch the show.
