We've become an awe deprived people that we've sort of emasculated and characterized Jesus into some sort of benign Santa figure. That's a horrible rendering of what God is saying there through John. When you look at other door metaphors, he blew Paul's door off the hinges. And so to make him anything less than the omniscient God that he is, we're doing ourselves such a disservice because then we're less likely to worship and be compelled by him.
