Nastalgia wasn't a disease, and it wasn't straight up homesickness. In reaction to modernity itself, there was some thought that maybe progress and industrialization might eradicate nastalgia. Romanticism was a cultural movement that reshaped art, music, literature and philosophy over the course of the nineteenth century. There was a shared yearning for how things were whether people left home or not.
