What's the Difference Between Conscious and Unconscious?

When we are conscious, then we're conscious of something. The idea that perception in general works more from the top down, or from the outside in is wrong. In this view, there's nothing that it is to be raw sensory experience at any one time. All perceptual experience is an inference - a process of best guessing.
