The Story of Whitman's Teaching
Whitman himself only attended school until he was el an. At 17, he started work as a teacher. He liked to ask more questions of the students rather than hammer textbook lessons home through force. Was strongly in favor of abolishing all corporal punishment in the classroom. Once wrote a story, i think i mentioned it earlier, called death in the schoolroom,. which set forth his views.
