"I spent many years as a trader and I was never, because once you take this sort of statistical approach, you're always trying to separate randomness from reality," he says. "Just because you've had a good round doesn't mean you're good at what you're doing, right? You could be lucky flipping coins or whatever it might be." He started Palomar in 2011 after the credit crunch ended with banks losing their will to hire people like him. 'If I just have five customers, that's diversification.'
