If a piece of software can replace a really smart human at everything they do, that society is just going to be totally remade. And that could mean the structure of civilization. It could mean just society continues, but in a radically altered way. In participating in your thought experiment, which I always have some hesitancy about inference from, hence my earlier comments,. I would say that if we get a human level intelligence that will make substantially different organizational society; it'll depend a little bit on what the nature of that intelligence is. Is it Buddhist? Does it like all sentience? Is it partnering with us? Do we have a natural alignment of interest?

Many people who work on AI safety advocate for slowing the rate of development; but might there be any advantages in speeding up AI development?
