Evolution and Mutation

The reason that we don't have more radiation here on the surface of the earth is our atmosphere. Our magnetic field acts sort of like a shield but some of it does get through and gets down to the surface. A crucial element of evolution is mutation which requires either making a mistake when you're transcribing DNA from the parent to the child or having a mistake introduced from cosmic rays. Cosmic rays have played an important part in our evolution.
