The Royal ransomware group has ramped up operations recently and is mounting attacks against critical infrastructure and healthcare targets in particular. A new Linux net filter kernel flaw has been discovered, allowing unprivileged local users to escalate their privileges to root level. Intel has issued a new CPU microcode updates going back to generation eight for new as of yet undisclosed security updates. Microsoft and Google have pledged $5 million in funding for the new alpha omega project, which is an initiative aimed at improving open source software security by identifying and patching vulnerabilities in source code.
