The first product that made me reconsider the idea was Facebook paper. We as designers have largely ignored, for example, our own CSS style sheets for audio and they have been existing for a long time. The purpose of the article was to make a wake-up call to everyone because currently web is still really important but in three years, in five years, the landscape will be changed.
