The coronation of Richard III and Queen Anne Neville must have appeared to represent a return to a more settled period. So what can we learn and understand from medieval coronations? The main ones I'd identify are firstly the recognition which is that leftover elective part. Despite being a remnant of an Anglo-Saxon world largely swept away after 1066, to this day the ceremony begins with those with Westminster Abbey.
