How to Make a Loud Chord a Real Surprise
Modern audiences often know something is coming, especially with a symphony named surprise. So some orchestras slash conductors have gone to extreme lengths to successfully pull off a real surprise. One of the techniques that i've done is to make the repeat almost imp sably soft - which makes the audience lean into the music and wonder what's going on. My hope is i can make a few people jump, many peop perhaps smile, and one or two to laugh.
