Why Should the US Care About Estonia or Even Defense the Baltic States?
In Estonia and Latvia, where there was concern of the ethnic populations, where I think 24 to 27% ethnic Russian. There was a sense that a large part of that population had actually moved into Estonian Latvia after the Russians had reoccupied the Baltic states following World War II. For those under 30 who've really gone through Estonian and Latvian school systems, they probably are fairly comfortable in Estonian andLatvian. So I think this is an issue which has been immulurated with time.
