Social Contact - The Value of Direct Human Contact

Do things like faceburk and skipe emal constitute social contact? That's a tricky area because, to some extent, they provide surragat. They do not meet the needs in the paradagmatic sense when those needs can't be met in other ways. If someone is highly contagious, it may not be possible for people to be around them directly. And then we might have to rely on imperfect substitutes to insure they have some kind of social con. But there's so much that's missing.
