Should the Section on Equalization in the Constitution Be Removed?
If people vote yes in response to this question, does that mean that section can actually be scrapped or eliminated from the constitution? Short answer is no. And alberta vote is not going to remove anything from the constitution. So what, then, is the significance of this vote? This is a very political vote. Some one last night on twitter called it performative electoral politics. There are some constitutional experts who have said a referendum question like this could lead to a resolution in the provincial legis. But there is legal debate about all of this.
