The Benefits of Organic Agriculture

Conventional organic farms reduce nitrate runoff mainly through their low use of nitrogen inputs they don't use artificial fertilizers so there's less nitrogen put in the soil. Also the use of cover crops and straw based manure and lower stocking densities which means lower number of cows or sheep or whatever pigs per land area. These factors all help to limit the amount of water that’s going to or leach into the ground and then dissolve the nitrogen that is the nitrate that's in there. That seems to be why organic farms are better in the nitrate pollution area than conventional farms.
