The Flood and Noah in the New Testament

The flood and noah do come up in the new testament, which is one of the arguments people use to say we need to take genesis 69 literally. How do you navigate that with your interpretation of a local flood using universal language? Again, i want to remind everybody that when we talk about reading the text literally, we have to be talking about reading it the way the author intended it to be read.
