Identity and the Romantic Lies About Authenticity
A lot of people embrace a concept of identity as a way to signal that they are not part of another group. The idea of real authenticity, where you have these authentic choices seems to me to be much more tenuous than people think. And the thing that I'm sort of struggling to get at is that if you define yourself as the opposite of the people you hate or have chosen to hate, you're still letting them define you.
