Attachment theory was proposed by john bolby in the 19 fifties. It states that an infant needs to develop a relationship with at least one primary caregiver for social and emotional development to occur normally. Attachment does absolutely set the stage for all future development. Parents who are consistent enough will build up a strong bond with their baby, which is crucial during early years of life. The more controversial style of attachment parenting hit its peak in the early 20 tens - but has since been on the decline.
