In 19 16, the british and french entered into a pact to divide up the territory of the ottoman empire between themselves should they win the war. The sykspico agreement was a direct negation of the web o promises that thebritish had already made on the land. It provided a basis for the ultimate partitioning of the Ottoman empire after the war. National borders that it helped create have gone on to shape a century of strife and political conflict the region.
