The Importance of Understanding Confessions

I would call it illicit for sure 100% because the priest does actually have to understand what he's hearing. Does it affect the validity of the sacrament? Probably not. I've never encountered a mute person in my life but you know it can happen so I do validity no. But that they are confessed and that they are absolved. Yeah that's the requirement for the validity of sacrament. So I'd say they're about like Don't worry people don't worry people"
